Last year, in my inaugural Link Out entry, I wrote about the blogs I visit on a daily basis. I still visit most of those blogs, although some of them have become weekly, instead of daily, affairs. One year later, and no longer in a cubicle, these are some sites I’ve added to my daily diet:
GigaOM – very hip tech blog about the latest developments in the Web 2.0 world. these guys get the first scoop on the latest deals, site launches, and rumblings among the 2.0 community. Om Malik, the editor of GigaOM, recently launched Web Worker Daily, a helpful blog for people who’ve gone bedouin, that is, ditched the corporate office environment for a low-cost, hi-tech, solo or small team effort — kinda like me!
The Millions (A Blog About Books) – these book enthusiasts (I think bibliophiles are people who collect/buy/sell actual books, not so much read them) share the latest publishing news and also offer tips on good reading material, on and offline. they once posted an entry that linked to my Menand site!
Life Clever: Tips for design and life – though I’d like to see more frequent updates, this is a well-designed and very thoughtful blog. is it just me or does every designer worship their Macs?
Subtraction – this personal blog of Khoi Vinh, the head web designer for The New York Times, is a well-respected destination with insightful posts and an aura of authority
Coudal Partners – I was actually a frequent visitor to this site last year as well but just forgot to mention it. I love this site, I love the work this Chicago-based firm does, and their attitude toward work, design, and creativity is very inspiring.
Well, that’s the rest of my roll. I do venture out to the occasional food blogs (to get a better sense for my own) as well as Angry Asian Man, but if you really want to, you can do nothing all day except surf the web. I think keeping a core set and weeding out the crappy ones is the trick to being an efficient surfer. And stay away from YouTube! That thing is poison to productivity.
